The Gastown Blog features Planet Claire!

Planet Claire, one of Gastown’s sustainable fashion destinations, has settled in beautifully at its new location, 51 Powell Street.  While the space may be different, owner Claire’s principles for selecting socially and environmentally aware designs remain the same. The natural and raw space surrounding Claire’s eco-fashion emporium will also be an evolving collaborative gallery, curated by Vancouver-based Neal Nolan.

Nolan will be working with various local artists to continuously transform Planet Claire’s interior. The next installation will be launched on Friday, September 24th, featuring Die Constant, a politically charged clothing line and artist collective. Between 7-11 pm, Planet Claire and Die Constant will be celebrating their alliance store opening with live music, beverages, art projections, and end of season sales.  On this evening Planet Claire will be unveiling Die Constant’s fall 2010 line as well as other exciting fall lines, such as Montreal’s Kollantaï and Vancouver outerwear designer Bridget Bergman.

Before this next transformation, stop by and enjoy the current installation, REDIVIVUS.  This collaboration between Nolan and artist Eben Bender compares symbols of heritage with those of modernity, perfectly complimenting Gastown’s character. Antique found objects are contrasted with graffiti-style painting and the colourfully bold garments on the racks (which are also recycled!).
